Company History
Massey Tractor Parts is a family-owned business that has been serving the agriculture industry for over 100 years. With four generations of experience, Massey Tractor Parts has become a trusted source for high-quality parts and machinery. Our history dates back to the late 19th century, when the business was founded by the current director's grandfather. However, it was Mr. J K McElderry who truly put McElderry's on the map. He established a shop in Ballymoney that sold seeds, fertilizers, implements, hardware, and spare parts for machinery. In addition to his interest in breeding Clydesdale heavy horses, Mr. J K McElderry also ran a large dairy with a milking herd of Ayreshire cows. In the past, milk was delivered locally by horse and trap, but this method was eventually replaced by electric milk vans. While these vans were a convenient new technology, they were often unreliable and had to be towed back to the dairy due to dead batteries. They made butter, ice-cream and cheese at the dairy.
The introduction of tractors and the three point linkage revolutionized agriculture. J K McElderry was responsible for bringing the first tractor to the North Antrim region, a Fordson, which was quickly followed by a Massey Ferguson. To this day, Massey Ferguson remains the best-selling brand at Massey Tractor Parts. In 1947, John McElderry Motors and Tractors was established, featuring a garage that sold and serviced Massey Ferguson tractors and Austin cars. In 1983, the two companies, John McElderry Ltd and John McElderry (M&T) Ltd, moved to a larger location at 24 Market Street. At this time, Motors and Tractors divested from the car trade in order to focus on the sale of tractors and agricultural machinery. Currently, we occupy this site and have acquired a number of world-renowned franchises, including Massey Ferguson and Fendt tractors, Terex agricultural handlers, Vicon harvest machinery, Marshall trailers and muck spreaders, De-Laval milking equipment, NC slurry pumps and dump trailers, Pro-Fit plant and cattle trailers, and Permastore above ground slurry stores.
